This painting is the first of the milk series.   The boy holds the cup of milk as a comfort after the lose of his mother.   When the death occurred he was 17 years old, but he is emotionally a boy again as he feels and tries to comprehend the sudden and unexpected death.
The frame is made from old wooden house trim which encompasses the image in a nostalgic memorial.
